This hand carved face was a spontaneous whittling onto the back of a broken hazel branch from a Devon hedgerow. Hazel is sometimes known as the wood of wisdom so I tried to carve a sagely expression but it seems to me the face is enjoying a private joke.
Set into two natural decay points where older branches once grew, are two pieces of Chrysocolla. These cabochons were fair traded with another artist friend in Glastonbury, Somerset.
The plaited and hammered copper hoop is up-cycled from salvaged electrical equipment.
Approx. 2.5”(6.5cm) long and Approx. 1.5”(4cm) at its widest.
